The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, to improve healthcare delivery and human capital development in Sierra Leone.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a high-level meeting between Planning Minister Hon. Kenyeh Barlay and a senior MSF delegation, including Deputy General Director of MSF Brussels, Chantal Krystle, and Country Director Mr. Giet. The meeting also marked 40 years of MSF’s medical humanitarian operations in Sierra Leone, from 1986 to 2026.
Discussions focused on aligning MSF’s interventions with the Government’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2024–2030, particularly Game Changer 5.2 on Human Capital Development.
Key areas included the organisation’s 220-bed Kenema Mother and Child Hospital and the MSF Healthcare Academy, which aim to improve healthcare services and strengthen health professionals’ capacity.
Minister Barlay also reaffirmed MoPED’s commitment to supporting the parliamentary ratification of MSF’s Host Country Agreement (HCA) to strengthen the framework for its continued operations in Sierra Leone. MoPED leadership is expected to undertake a working visit to the Kenema Hospital complex and Healthcare Academy to assess progress and deepen cooperation.
The engagement, facilitated by MoPED’s Directorate of NGO Affairs, underscores the Ministry’s efforts to coordinate with humanitarian and development partners to ensure their programmes align with national development priorities.
