Apple is rolling out RC (release candidate) versions of iPadOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, and more. Here’s what that means.
iPadOS 27.2 and more get RC builds ahead of launch

Apple’s lineup of 27.2 software updates is almost ready to launch.
Today Apple is rolling out RC versions of iPadOS 27.2, watchOS 27.2, visionOS 27.2, and more.
Even though the current public software version of 27.0, the company is reportedly limiting 27.1 to iPhone Duo. Thus, most devices are skipping straight to 27.2.
Release candidate versions are intended to be the exact software builds that ship to all users in the public release.
It’s not unusual for Apple to discover new bugs in the RC that lead them to debut a second RC, but typically any changes in those subsequent builds are minimal.
New features in these updates include:
- Messages: Suggested Actions
- Apple TV: Profiles come to iPad
- Apple Music: New app icon and updated design
- Apple Podcasts: Overhauled Up Next queue
- Siri AI: More languages supported
- Home: New automation controls for compatible smart locks
- plus iPad gets new Siri contextual popup
Apple is expected to launch iPadOS 27.2 and its other new updates by the end of October—likely early next week.
We’ll keep you posted on anything new in the RC builds that we discover.
