The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the filing of a charge sheet against Saima Wazed, daughter of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, over allegations that she provided false information in her CV to secure the post of regional director for the World Health Organization's (WHO) South-East Asia region.
ACC Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan disclosed the development at the commission's regular briefing today (18 October).
According to the ACC, Saima Wazed falsely claimed in her CV that she had worked as an "honorary specialist/expert" at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), now known as Bangladesh Medical University.
The investigation alleges that she used this information to secure the appointment as WHO regional director.
The ACC said the alleged acts took place while Wazed was serving as chairperson of the National Advisory Committee on Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders and the Suchona Foundation.
According to the commission, she allegedly damaged the country's reputation by providing false information in her CV and abusing her power.
The investigation further found that pressure was applied to advance the appointment process based on the information in her CV, including the opening of necessary files through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, without allowing proper verification of the claims.
The information was subsequently sent to WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, through Bangladesh's permanent mission to the United Nations and other international organisations, the ACC said. The commission alleges that these submissions led to her appointment as regional director.
A case over the allegations was filed at the ACC's Dhaka Integrated District Office-1 on 20 March 2025.
