ATAQ – Hundreds of mourners gathered in the city of Ataq in Yemen's Shabwa governorate on Wednesday to attend the funeral of 75 security personnel killed in a ballistic missile attack carried out by the Houthi group on a security training center earlier this week.
The victims were killed when a ballistic missile struck the Martyr Ahmed Al-Sulaimani Training Center while newly recruited members of the Internal Security forces were undergoing military training, according to local authorities.
The official funeral ceremony was held at Al-Faqeed Al-Khalifi Stadium in Ataq and was led by Shabwa Governor Awad bin Al-Wazir. The event was attended by local government officials, military and security commanders, and large crowds of residents who paid their respects to the fallen personnel.
During the ceremony, Governor bin Al-Wazir reaffirmed the local authority's commitment to supporting the families of those killed and wounded in the attack.
He pledged to provide all necessary assistance, closely monitor the condition of the injured, and ensure they receive comprehensive medical care until their recovery is complete.
The governor also stressed the importance of pursuing those responsible for the attack and bringing them to justice. He said the incident would not weaken the determination of the people of Shabwa or undermine the cohesion of the province's security and military institutions.
"This crime will not affect the resolve of Shabwa's people nor the steadfastness of its security and military establishments," bin Al-Wazir said, adding that local authorities would continue efforts to strengthen security, enhance operational readiness, and confront any threats to the province's stability and the safety of its citizens.
