Mike Boynton Jr. has landed his first high school recruit since taking over as Michigan basketball’s head coach.
Lucai Anderson, a four-star guard and top-100 recruit in the 2027 class, shared news of his commitment to the Wolverines on Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Anderson (6-foot-5, 190 pounds) made his pledge to Michigan after visiting Ann Arbor last month. He also took official visits to Georgia Tech, UCF and USC.
"I feel like the trust Coach Boynton portrayed to me on the visit and how he approached me when he first saw me meant a lot to me," Anderson told 247Sports. "He explained how he saw my future for me and trust in the process. I feel like the right time to commit is now just so they know I'm on the same page as them and that I really am excited for this opportunity and they don't have to worry about me being able to come or not to the university."
If the name sounds familiar, it should for Michigan fans. He’s the younger brother of Christian Anderson, a one-time Michigan basketball commit who ended up at Texas Tech after then-Michigan coach Juwan Howard was fired and was selected by the Charlotte Hornets at No. 18 overall in June’s NBA Draft.
Lucai Anderson called it a “crazy coincidence” that he’s planning to join the same program his brother once did years ago before the Wolverines had a coaching change.
“Now I'm the one in those shoes and it's crazy to see that we both achieved Michigan under no relation to the coach and under two different sets of coaches,” Anderson told 247Sports. “My goal of coming to Ann Arbor is to just get as much better as I can and be an impact and help to win as best as I can and prepare for the NBA during my time there.”
A shooting guard out of Florida’s IMG Academy who has also spent time playing with Germany’s national team, Anderson is ranked the No. 84 overall recruit in the class and No. 8 at his position by the 247Sports composite.
