A major fire swept through Um Darsay Diko village in the Ain Siro area of Kutum locality in Sudan’s North Darfur State on Monday afternoon, destroying an estimated 15 homes and displacing 14 families who are now facing harsh humanitarian conditions without shelter.
Sheikh al-Douma Abdallah Ahmed said the fire destroyed the homes and all their contents, including personal belongings, food supplies and clothing.
“The affected families were unable to salvage any of their essential possessions and have lost everything,” he said.
Yahya Ibrahim, another resident, confirmed the extensive losses, saying the affected households have been left without shelter, food or clothing.
“Their suffering could worsen amid the absence of necessities,” he stated.
The Farang East Emergency Response Room and community leaders have issued an urgent appeal to local and international humanitarian organizations, United Nations agencies, charities and donors to intervene immediately and provide emergency shelter materials, food, clothing and healthcare for the affected families.
The appeal comes amid an urgent need for humanitarian assistance to ensure that those affected, particularly children, receive essential supplies and that families can begin to cope with the loss of their homes and belongings.
