The Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers will begin the 2026 World Series on Friday night. This year’s Fall Classic will make history simply by being played, as it will represent the first time since 1964 that the teams that led their leagues in total hits will play in the World Series, according to Sarah Langs.
Neither ball club records many home runs. In fact, Tampa Bay was 22nd and Milwaukee was 28th in long balls in all of MLB during the regular season. Yet, they ranked first and second in all of baseball in hits, as the Brewers led the way with 1,422 hits and the Rays had 1,405.
These teams have other similarities as well. There are plenty of critics of batting average in today’s game, yet the Brewers were first and the Rays were second in all of the sport in the category. Milwaukee was also the best in baseball in OBP and Tampa Bay was fifth.

Getting on base is not a problem for either team. They both cause havoc on the bases as well. The Rays finished the regular season third in stolen bases while the Brewers were fifth.
Sure, there may not be a lot of home runs in this series. Baseball fans who appreciate teams that do the little things well will surely enjoy the series, though. Both teams also pitch well, so the ’26 World Series will be an all-around battle.
First pitch for Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for 8 PM ET on Friday night in Milwaukee.
