Buddhist nuns perform the Cheonsubara, a ritual dance, during the Jingwansa Guksu Suryukjae, a state-designated National Intangible Heritage ceremony, held on the 25th at an outdoor altar in front of the main hall of Jingwansa Temple in Seoul's Eunpyeong District. Held under the theme "The Whole World Is One Family — Harmony and World Peace," the rite consoled victims of war and disaster and offered prayers for harmony and peace transcending religion, ideology and nationality. The Guksu Suryukjae, which began in the sixth year of the reign of King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty, is a Buddhist ceremony that consoles and guides the spirits of both the living and the dead without discrimination. It was designated a National Intangible Heritage in 2013. Photo courtesy of Jingwansa Temple, Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Oct. 25, 2026
