How Many GTA 6 Pre-Orders Have Been Sold?

GTA 6 is undoubtedly the biggest game of the decade, if not all time, so players are eager to see how well it sells. While Rockstar has shared plenty of details about GTA 6, the studio hasn’t revealed the game’s total pre-order numbers, save for Take-Two’s CEO stating that GTA 6 pre-orders have been astronomical and unprecedented. However, Sensor Tower’s report gives us a rough idea, so here’s everything we know about GTA 6 pre-order sales numbers so far.

GTA 6 Pre-Order Sales Overview

According to Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has sold 6.45 million copies in total and generated $630 million in revenue across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as of October 23, 2026.

Here’s the pre-order sales split between PS5 and Xbox:

GTA 6 Pre-Order Sales	PlayStation 5	Xbox Series X|S
Copies Sold	4.8 million	1.66 million
Revenue Generated	$468 million	$162 million
Sales Mix	74%	26%

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick during the August 7 investor call confirmed the pre-orders have “vastly” surpassed Take-Two’s internal expectations, despite GTA 6’s lack of a physical disc. Of course, this doesn’t mean Sensor Tower’s reports on the GTA 6 pre-orders are 100% accurate.

It’s possible that the report is inaccurate, and GTA 6’s actual pre-order numbers may be much higher than we anticipated. Moreover, the pre-order bonus includes the GTA 6 Vintage Vice City Pack, with new cosmetics for Jason and Lucia, plus a free month of GTA+, which likely gave more Rockstar fans a reason to pre-order early.

So, if you still haven’t got your copy, go ahead and pre-order Grand Theft Auto 6 right now. You can choose between the GTA 6 Ultimate vs Standard Editions for $100 and $80, respectively.

Below, we dive into the details of the split between GTA 6 pre-orders on PS5 and Xbox, and why Sony’s home console is leading the charge.

How Many GTA 6 Pre-Order Copies Have Been Sold on PS5?

Sensor Tower’s analysis of GTA 6 pre-order sales states Rockstar’s upcoming open-world adventure has sold more than 4.8 million copies on PS5, as of October 23, 2026, accounting for 74% of all pre-orders.

The pre-orders alone have generated $468 million in revenue on the platform. GTA 6’s strong PlayStation sales come as no surprise, given Sony’s marketing deal with Rockstar, which includes the “Plays Best on PS5” promotion. Even GTA 6 PS5 physical cases that customers spotted in stores across Europe, the UK, and Japan had the same branding.

Additionally, Rockstar captured the 26-minute GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix entirely on a base PlayStation 5, running at a stable 30 FPS. Rockstar likely captured its marketing footage on PS5, starting with GTA 6’s second trailer, so the game is obviously tracking well on Sony’s platform.

GTA 6’s Launch Trailer also prominently featured the “Plays Best on PS5” branding, which likely helped boost sales on the platform.

With reports suggesting GTA 6 pre-orders surged 436% after the Extended Look, PS5 is clearly dominating Xbox Series X|S. However, that doesn’t mean the green gaming platform isn’t performing well.

How Many GTA 6 Pre-Order Copies Have Been Sold on Xbox?

Meanwhile, Sensor Tower’s reports state that Rockstar Games has sold 1.66 million copies on Xbox Series X|S, generating $162 million in revenue.

It may trail PlayStation’s numbers, but Xbox Series X|S still performs well despite having a smaller player base than PS5, accounting for 26% of overall sales.

The same report notes the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition is dominating pre-order charts, with nearly 90% of Xbox pre-orders going toward the $100 edition, compared to 88.5% on PlayStation. This is likely because Rockstar locked certain GTA 6 shops in the Ultimate Edition, including a clothing shop, a vehicle mod shop, and more.

Furthermore, Xbox Chief Security Officer Matthew Ball confirmed that GTA 6 pre-orders are breaking records on Xbox, so there’s no reason to believe otherwise. As GTA 6’s November 19 launch approaches, we’ll likely get more details on its pre-order numbers across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Another factor driving Xbox pre-orders could be the absence of GTA 6 on Xbox Game Pass at launch, prompting players to buy the game outright rather than wait years for it to land on the subscription service.

Naturally, both PS5 and Xbox players want the game pre-ordered and ready when GTA 6 preloads begin on November 12, 2026. That said, let us know in the comments how many GTA 6 pre-orders you think Rockstar has sold.
