Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Bangladesh JSD) has strongly condemned the attack and vandalism at the residence of Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader at Uttara in the capital.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, Bangladesh JSD President Sharif Nurul Ambia and General Secretary Nazmul Haque Pradhan expressed deep concern over the incident.
The leaders said political differences and disputes could never be addressed through violence, attacks or vandalism.
In a democratic society, they said, it is the state's responsibility to ensure the security of every political party and individual, freedom of expression, and the right to carry out political activities.
They described attacks on a political leader or his residence as contrary to the principles of democracy and a tolerant political environment.
The two leaders said political tolerance, mutual respect and the rule of law must be established to strengthen the democratic environment in the country. They stressed that any attempt to create violence or spread fear over political disagreements must be avoided.
They called on the relevant authorities to conduct an impartial and fair investigation into the incident, identify those involved in the attack and bring them to justice. They also urged the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
The statement further emphasised that ending political violence and ensuring the safety of all citizens are essential to establishing democracy and the rule of law in the country.
