The Forest Department has directed 59 families in No. 2 Negheribil along the Assam-Nagaland border to vacate their homes ahead of a fresh eviction drive scheduled to resume on Saturday, triggering concern among the affected residents.
Forest officials made announcements through loudspeakers on Friday, asking the families to pack their belongings and leave their homes.
The 59 families had earlier received temporary relief from eviction after securing a stay order from the Supreme Court during a previous eviction drive in the area.
The administration had earlier carried out an eviction operation in Negheribil, where 205 families were affected. Of these, 59 families were spared at the time following the court's order.
The latest directive has renewed uncertainty among the families, who now face the prospect of losing their homes as the authorities prepare to resume the operation.
The Forest Department's announcement has also triggered fresh tension in the area, with the affected residents concerned about their future.
