Origin, a physical AI startup building robots for interior construction, has raised $20 million in total funding in a round co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures. The round also saw participation from Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures and Z21, along with angel investors from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.
The company will use the funds to expand its robot fleet, deploy its flagship robot OG-1 and conduct customer pilots in the US and Europe. It also plans to expand its robotics platform to additional interior construction tasks.
Founded in 2025 by Yogesh Ghaturle, Ashish Daga and Tushar Makkar, Origin develops robots designed to automate interior construction work. Its flagship robot, OG-1, currently handles wall finishing tasks such as applying compound, sanding and priming walls.
The robot is designed to operate across commercial spaces, residential apartments, data centres, hotels and warehouses. The company said it deployed its first robots at construction sites in New York within 10 months of its founding.
Origin is preparing for pilots with customers in the US and Europe, including two large drywall finishing contractors in the US. It also plans to conduct pilots in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.
The startup's robots are powered by its Construction Action Model, a foundation model developed for construction workflows. The system combines task planning, autonomous navigation and tool control to help robots perform construction tasks and adapt to changing site conditions.
Origin plans to expand OG-1's capabilities to tasks such as taping, drywall installation, drilling and conduit installation. The company is targeting the deployment of 150 robots by the end of 2027.
The funding comes amid rising interest in construction robotics as companies look to address labour shortages and improve productivity. According to a survey published by the Associated General Contractors of America in September 2026, worker shortages delayed projects for 42% of surveyed US construction firms.
A report by Zacua Ventures, published with Hilti Ventures and 94 Ventures, said construction robotics startups attracted $1.36 billion in venture funding in the first three quarters of 2025, compared with $612 million during the whole of 2024.
Ghaturle previously founded Perpule, a cloud-based point-of-sale startup that Amazon acquired in 2021. Makkar leads autonomy at Origin and previously worked at AI company Eightfold AI, while Daga leads hardware and has worked at digital pathology startup Morphle Labs.
Origin is headquartered in San Francisco and is deploying robots across construction sites in the US and Europe.
