The JustWatch Group, known for its guide to streaming, is officially in the programming game after Tuesday’s launch of multi-dimensional platform JustWatch TV.
The Berlin-based company, which was founded in 2014, said the new service will offer free and ad-supported video on demand and transactional titles from 30 initial partners from the U.S. and other countries. A premium ad-free tier will be available for $3.99 a month.
Plans for the service were revealed last month.
JustWatch TV is launching in the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. It is available within the JustWatch apps and website, which has 50 million users.
Initial content partners include Cineverse in the US, Leonine Studios in Germany, SND in France, and Altitude in the UK & Ireland. They join previously announced suppliers Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street and Vortex Media.
“The launch of JustWatch TV marks the most important new development in our company’s twelve-year history, and it’s only the start,” says David Croyé, Founder and CEO of the JustWatch Group. “We called our company JustWatch because we wanted to make it easier for people to find and ‘just watch’ the movies and shows they love. From the beginning, our vision was to create a single platform that directs fans to all of their entertainment options in one place. JustWatch TV will help fill in the gaps and will make it easier for the massive JustWatch audience to discover and watch great movies and series, including those hard-to-find titles, right from the app itself.”
The JustWatch Group has 200-plus employees spread across its Berlin-based headquarters and offices in L.A., London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Munich, Dubai, and Sydney.
