The utility issued the notice on Sunday evening, informing customers that power supply would be cut off starting at 8:00am and restored by 5:00pm, representing a nine-hour outage window for all affected areas.
In the notice, Kenya Power cited Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules as the legal basis for the interruption, stating that periodic supply disruptions are necessary to carry out routine operations on the national grid.
The utility explained that the outages serve several operational purposes, including routine maintenance and upgrading of existing power lines, connecting new customers to the network, and replacing infrastructure during road construction projects.
Counties Affected by the Outage
Seven counties are set to experience the interruptions, with Nairobi and Nyeri among those listed in the notice. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make alternative arrangements for the duration of the outage.
Kenya Power conducts scheduled maintenance exercises regularly across the country to ensure the reliability and stability of the national electricity grid. Customers in affected zones are typically advised to switch off sensitive electrical appliances before the supply is restored to avoid damage from power surges.
