The country’s armed forces published the guidelines on their official Defence careers website. The process, known as Armed Forces Day, applies to young people living in Denmark who turn 18 in the relevant year. The stated cut-off date is 1 July 2025.
Danish military: What foreigners need to qualify
The rules apply to both men and women, whether or not they hold Danish citizenship. Armed Forces Day assesses a young person’s suitability for service and introduces them to Denmark’s Army, Navy, Air Force and Emergency Management Agency.

Foreign nationals are not automatically excluded. However, they must hold a valid Danish residence and work permit, provide evidence of ties to the country, and have either applied for Danish citizenship or intend to do so.
Those who meet all three requirements are treated on the same terms as Danish citizens during the process.
The conditions for foreign residents
The permit requirement means short-term visitors and people without formal legal status do not qualify under the published rules. The citizenship condition also limits eligibility to foreign residents who are already seeking, or intend to seek, Danish nationality.
For readers in Kenya, the guidelines show that living in a country alone does not necessarily make a foreign national eligible for a civic obligation: Denmark’s rules also require legal residence, documented ties and a connection to the citizenship process.
Denmark Outlines Requirements for Foreigners Seeking Military Service
TUKO.co.ke reported that Denmark allows foreign nationals already living in the country to be considered for military service if they meet specific residency and citizenship conditions.
Applicants must submit a written request and pass physical and psychological evaluations.
Their ability to speak and understand Danish is also assessed to determine whether they can function effectively in military units.
