Marko Stjepanovic, the newly appointed editor-in-chief of Nova.rs, has described the severance package offered to journalists who do not wish to work under the new management as fair, saying the deadline to accept is reasonable.
He said the change of ownership had not happened overnight and that most newsroom employees had already formed an opinion on whether they wanted to continue working with the new management. Journalists have until 7 p.m. on October 15 to apply for severance pay amounting to two-thirds of a monthly salary for each year of service.
Stjepanovic said he could not estimate how many would accept the offer, stressing that it was an individual decision. He added that, if the newsroom became significantly smaller, the portal might initially publish fewer articles, but insisted that all content would be accurate, fair and professional.
