Brady Tkachuk got an expected response in his return to Ottawa with the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, but it was the Senators who really enjoyed the homecoming game.
The Senators rallied from a 1-0 lead — which was supplied by Tkachuk — and rolled to a 5-1 win, snapping the Panthers’ three-game winning streak.
The game ended with Brady in the Florida room after a scrum in the final minutes as trash, jerseys, and other debris hit the ice.
The Panthers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.
Tkachuk was booed from warmups on, with some vocal Ottawa fans throating an obscene chant throughout the game.
Yet, not long after Tkachuk’s tribute video, he gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead on a power-play feed from older brother Matthew.
The rest of the night belonged to the Senators.
Ottawa tied the score on a Tim Stutzle power-play goal toward the end of the first, then added two more in the second.
Linus Ullmark made 16 saves for the Senators before having to be helped off the ice at 3:35 of the third period after making a kick save.
Samuel Ersson came on for the Sens, and it did not matter much.
Florida failed to get off a single shot before Warren Foegelemade it 4-1 about 3 minutes later.
Brady Tkachuk played 13:13 of the game, taking three penalties. He was a minus-2.
GAMEDAY NOTES: PANTHERS at SENATORS
- Brady Tkachuk became the fourth player to score at least seven goals through their first 10 careergames with the Panthers, following Pavel Bure (10 in 1998-99), Ray Whitney (seven in 1997-98) and Ray Sheppard (seven in 1995-96).
- The seven goals scored in the first 10 games of a season is tied for fourth-most by a Panthers player in their history. Aside from the ones listed above, Sam Reinhart had eight in 2023, and Scott Mellanby had eight in 1995.
- Matthew Tkachuk continued his point streak to nine games after assisting on Brady’s first period goal. Matthew has had a point in all but Florida’s 1-0 OT win at Carolina in the opener.
HOW THEY SCORED
- Panthers 1, Senators 0 (10:00 1st PP): Who else but Brady Tkachuk, eh? Brady gets along the goal line, takes a pass from Matthew and powers a shot past Linus Ullmark.
- Senators 1, Panthers 1 (14:13 1st PP): Tim Stutzle evens things up by drilling a one-timer from the right circle through Akira Schmid.
- Senators 2, Panthers 1 (9:32 2nd): Claude Giroux rips one through from the slot.
- Senators 3, Panthers 1 (17:18 2nd): Shane Pinto gets loose and, despite being wrapped up by Niko Mikkola, slides a shot home.
- Senators 4, Panthers 1 (7:58 3rd): Warren Foegele whips one from the slot to all but finish this thing.
- Senators 5, Panthers 1 (14:57 3rd): Stephen Halliday one-times a drop pass from Stutzle for good measure.
