The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has suspended the two-week ultimatum it issued to the Federal Government.
The suspension follows the release of eight months arrears owed to its members.
The union issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government on October 5th, 2026, over unpaid arrears and other outstanding demands.
But in a statement signed by its National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, the Union says the Federal Government has now approved and released eight months arrears for the period of January to August 2026.
He disclosed that the National Administrative Committee, NAC, acting on behalf of the National Executive Council, said it took cognisance of what it described as the prompt response of government and resolved to suspend the intended industrial action in the interest of industrial harmony in the university system.

The Union however called on the Federal Government to reciprocate the gesture by paying the outstanding one-year arrears of the 25 and 35 percent salary award of 2023, as well as the two months withheld salaries of 2022.
It also called on State Governments that are yet to implement the 2026 agreement to do so without further delay.
Mr. Ibrahim said SSANU reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement and dialogue, while urging government to take concrete steps to resolve all outstanding issues affecting its members in both Federal and State Universities.
