The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series heads to Phoenix Raceway this Friday for the Zero Carbon Bioethanol 150 Powered by POET, with the championship battle entering another important stage of the postseason.
The 150-mile race is scheduled for October 16 at 7:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on FS2. The one-mile Arizona oval will host 150 laps as the remaining championship contenders look to gain valuable ground with the season moving closer to its conclusion.
Layne Riggs Looks to Keep His Momentum
One of the biggest storylines heading into Phoenix is Layne Riggs, who is coming off a dramatic victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Riggs drove his No. 34 Ford for Front Row Motorsports to victory in the Ecosave 200, passing championship rival Kaden Honeycutt late in the race. The win added another major result to Riggs’ season and gave him momentum heading into the next round.
After showing speed throughout the Charlotte race, Riggs will look to carry that performance into Phoenix. With the championship fight tightening, another strong finish could prove important as the postseason continues.
Kaden Honeycutt Remains a Major Threat
Honeycutt will also be a driver to watch after a strong performance at Charlotte. He led the most laps and won Stage 2 before Riggs made his late pass for the victory.
Despite missing out on the win, Honeycutt showed that he has the speed to compete at the front. His ability to maintain track position and execute during the closing laps will be important at Phoenix, where small mistakes can have major consequences.
Other championship contenders, including Chandler Smith and Gio Ruggiero, will be looking for opportunities to close the gap as the pressure increases.
Why Phoenix Could Be Challenging
Phoenix Raceway presents a different test from Charlotte’s intermediate oval. The one-mile track features varying corner banking, making handling and tire management important throughout a long run.
Drivers will need to find a balance between maintaining speed and saving their tires. Restarts could also create opportunities to gain positions, while pit strategy may become a major factor if cautions change the complexion of the race.
The 150 lap distance leaves little room for costly mistakes, especially for drivers focused on advancing through the championship postseason.
A Critical Night in the Chase
With the championship battle continuing to develop, Friday night’s race offers another opportunity for contenders to separate themselves from the field.
Riggs arrives after a major victory, while Honeycutt will be looking to respond. The combination of championship pressure, Phoenix’s demanding layout and a competitive field sets up an important night for the Truck Series.
The green flag is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET Friday on FS2.
