The Green Bay Packers defensive tackle room took a massive hit last week after losing Javon Hargrave for the season, placing Jonathan Ford on injured reserve, while Jordon Riley is not quite ready to play. Green Bay opted not to elevate David Blay Jr. in yesterday’s game against Dallas and instead had four players active. Unfortunately, Chris McClellan and Anthony Campbell were ineffective, and the Packers could be in trouble against the Lions.
The Green Bay Packers add ex-1st-round pick, former Micah Parsons teammate
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN NFL Nation, the Packers are planning to sign Micah Parsons’ former teammate Mazi Smith to the practice squad after Monday’s tryout. The Cowboys drafted Smith 26th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, but he has not lived up to the first-round pick. He can be elevated three times to the game-day roster without penalty and could improve the defensive tackle depth at 337 pounds.
Update: The Packers are planning to sign him to the practice, per source.

Here’s a quick review of his past year
The Cowboys traded Mazi Smith to the Jets as part of the Quinnen Williams deal during the NFL Trade Deadline. Smith failed to register a statistic in three games and 54 defensive snaps with the new team, while being a healthy scratch six times. The Jets declined his fully guaranteed 5th-year option and waived him during roster cuts.
The Dolphins signed Smith to the practice squad shortly after. He was elevated to the game-day roster in Week 4 but recorded no stats in nine defensive snaps. Miami released him from the practice squad last week.
