The Savannah Southern Half Marathon is back for its second year, this time with a new course.
This year’s race features a new course that will start and end at Forsyth Park. Last year’s edition began at Forsyth Park but finished in Daffin Park.
This year’s event is expected to draw about 6,000 runners.
“Last year’s race highlighted the incredible potential of this event. In just our first year, we were able to exceed so many goals, while also providing a great racing experience for locals and visitors from around the nation,” said Crystian Kumnick, Managing Director of Motiv Sports, producer of the Savannah Southern Half, in a press release. “We plan to continue to grow and adapt this event throughout the years to ensure we continue to showcase the beautiful charm of Savannah and create the best runner’s experience we can.”
The event also features a 5k that runs from Forsyth Park to Daffin Park.
The new half-marathon route will span through Downtown Savannah into Savannah’s west side. The route passes key landmarks such as the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist and Enmarket Arena.
The course also winds through the Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent Neighborhood into Daffin Park. There, runners will go through Historic Grayson Stadium. The course then winds back to Forsyth Park.
The 5k course will finish in Daffin Park after a trip through the Thomas Square and Baldwin Park Neighborhoods.
Race organizers recommend registration, which can be done online at the race website.
