Eskom has announced a nine-hour power outage in Braamfischer, Soweto, on Thursday, 29 October.
The power utility confirmed the interruption in its Gauteng Cluster Connect bulletin for October 2026. Eskom says crews need to switch off supply to carry out essential maintenance on its distribution power lines.
The outage will affect customers in Braamfischer, and Eskom has urged residents to prepare ahead of the shutdown.
When the power outage will take place
Eskom will cut electricity supply in Braamfischer at 9:00 on Thursday, 29 October. The utility expects to restore power by 18:00 the same day.
Residents should charge cellphones, laptops and backup batteries the night before. Households should also plan meals and refrigeration, as the outage covers most of the day.
The utility warned that the planned maintenance may not go ahead as communicated if circumstances beyond its control arise. Residents should keep an eye on Eskom’s channels for any last-minute changes.
Eskom’s safety warning to Soweto residents
Eskom has advised customers to treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the outage. Power could return without warning, so residents should not attempt repairs or tamper with wiring while supply is off.
Switching off appliances and unplugging sensitive electronics can also help protect them from power surges when electricity comes back on.
The utility thanked customers for their cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience the maintenance may cause.
