The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ms Adeh said the meeting of representatives of the two communities in Gwagwalada Area Council with the CP followed reports of civil unrest between farmers and herders.
According to her, the meeting was part of ongoing efforts to sustain peace, restore public confidence and prevent further escalation of tensions in the communities.
She quoted the CP as urging both parties to embrace dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, as all disputes must be resolved through peaceful and lawful means rather than violence.
He warned against incitement, retaliation and any actions capable of disrupting public peace and security and called on the leaders to cooperate with the police.
He also enjoined the leaders to identify and hand over those responsible for the attacks to the police.
Mr Sanusi further urged the communities not to allow the actions of a few individuals to endanger their lives and security.
