KUALA LUMPUR: The government's response to calls for an explanation of the constitutional basis for the removal of 10 Negri Sembilan executive council (exco) members is still under discussion, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
She said the relevant ministry might address the matter during the winding-up of the debate in the Dewan Rakyat.
"The discussion is not over yet. Many people want to say all sorts of things.
"Later, during the winding-up, perhaps whichever ministry is relevant will wind up," she told reporters at a press conference held in conjunction with the Anti-Bullying Act 2026 Literacy Programme at the Malaysian Teacher Education Institute's Malay Language Campus today.
She was responding to Kota Baru Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan's call for the government to explain the constitutional basis for the removal of the exco members.
During his debate on the 2027 Supply Bill in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, Takiyuddin said the move conflicted with the Negri Sembilan Constitution and questioned the Attorney-General's position that the revocation was valid.
Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said last month that the revocation of the 10 exco members' appointments was valid under the state constitution.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim had earlier said that any termination of exco members without his advice had no legal effect.
