A man was arrested for allegedly attempting to murder his father-in-law by stabbing him on the premises of the Government District Headquarters Hospital in Erode on Monday (October 19, 2026).
The accused, Arokiyam, had a long-standing family dispute with his father-in-law, Vadivel, a resident of in Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district.
According to the police, the two had a heated argument on the hospital premises. As the argument escalated, Arokiyam allegedly took out a concealed knife and stabbed Vadivel several times.
Hearing his cries, hospital staff and members of the public rushed to his aid. Vadivel was admitted to the hospital’s emergency ward and is undergoing intensive treatment.
Police personnel on security duty at the hospital apprehended Arokiyam as he attempted to flee and arrested him. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight on the busy hospital premises, caused panic among patients and members of the public.
