A life sentence was upheld Thursday for an Italian man who killed three women, two Chinese and one Colombian, all sex workers, in the upscale Roman quarter of Prati near the Vatican in November 2022.
The Rome Assize Court of Appeal has upheld a life sentence for Giandavide De Pau, who was again found guilty of the triple femicide that took place on November 17, 2022.
The defendant, who was present in the courtroom for the first time, stabbed to death two Chinese nationals, 45-year-old Yang Yun Xia and 55-year-old Li Yan Rong, and a 65-year-old Colombian woman, Marta Castano Torres.
The triple Rome prostitute killer inflicted dozens of wounds on his victims, autopsies said.
The 51-year-old former driver of Camorrra boss Michele Senese stabbed the three women in various parts of their bodies including their necks, backs and heads, according to the pathology results.
De Pau acted in a premeditated way, prosecutors said after finding that he had disguised himself before entering the scene of his first two murders, and had deliberately filmed them.
The man, who was in treatment for drug and mental issues, has said he "only remembers all that blood" in the murders of the two Chinese sex workers as well as the Colombian trans prostitute in the Italian capital.
De Pau filmed Yang's murder for 14 minutes and Li's for fully 42 minutes. Castano was murdered with a stiletto during sex.
