One of the Google Pixel 11’s most useful AI features is no longer limited to Google’s latest phones, thanks to an unofficial workaround that brings its Rambler voice typing tool to other Android devices.
Developer Akshay Kadam has released PixelBoard, a modified version of Google’s Gboard keyboard that enables Rambler on unsupported Android phones. This means users could try the Pixel 11‘s AI-powered transcription features without having to upgrade their handset.
Unlike traditional voice typing, which transcribes speech as you talk, Rambler takes things a step further by automatically cleaning up what you’ve said. It removes filler words like “um” and “uh”, corrects grammar, and formats sentences into more readable text.
The feature can also recognise corrections made while speaking, insert emojis, and rewrite text in different tones, including formal and casual. Rather than displaying a live transcription, Rambler processes the recording once users finish speaking and tap the Done button.
It’s one of several AI additions introduced with the Pixel 11 series, alongside Magic Cue and Magic Capture, but until now, accessing Rambler meant owning one of Google’s newer smartphones.
PixelBoard changes that by modifying the Gboard APK to unlock the feature on other Android devices. According to Kadam, users simply need to install the modified keyboard and set it as their default instead of Gboard.
There is a catch, though. PixelBoard isn’t an official Google release, and installing a modified keyboard comes with potential privacy and security risks, particularly given how much sensitive information a keyboard app can access.
There’s also no guarantee the workaround will continue working. Google could restrict access through a future Gboard update or server-side change, leaving users without the feature.
For now, PixelBoard is available through Kadam’s GitHub repository, offering Android users an unofficial way to try one of the Pixel 11’s standout features without buying a new phone.
