CBS Sports has named the Spartans' "Floor General" as their preseason national player of the year.
Michigan State star point guard Jeremy Fears Jr. has been named the 2026-27 preseason national player of the year by CBS Sports. The national media outlet announced the notable recognition for Fears on Thursday.
This award for Fears comes from the college basketball writers of CBS Sports and 247Sports. Their votes were tallied up to determine this preseason award.
Fears returning to Michigan State this offseason made the Spartans a national title contender so it comes as no surprise that he is receiving this kind of national recognition. Fears lead the Spartans in both scoring and assists last year at 15.2 points and 9.4 assists per game. If he can continue to improve upon those numbers then Michigan State will be even harder to beat this year with an even better roster built around Fears.
