ADEN – Yemen's internationally recognized government has called on the United Nations Security Council to condemn attacks carried out by the Houthi group against government institutions, public service facilities, residential neighborhoods, and civilian infrastructure, urging the international body to demand an end to the attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
The appeal was made in two letters sent by Yemen's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council for October, addressing what the government described as an escalating Houthi military campaign, including a recent attack targeting Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace in the country's temporary capital, Aden.
According to the letters, the Yemeni government warned that continued attacks on civilian and government targets pose a serious threat to Yemen's security and stability and undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace in the war-torn country.
The government said the strike on Al-Maashiq Palace formed part of a broader pattern of attacks against state institutions and civilian facilities, stressing that such actions represent a dangerous escalation with potential repercussions for regional security.
Yemen urged the Security Council to take a firm stance against violations targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, calling for greater international pressure on the Houthis to halt their attacks and comply with relevant UN resolutions.
