Jon Rahm is a free man again.
The Spanish golfer completed his divorce from LIV Golf on Wednesday, agreeing to a deal to walk away from the remainder of his $300 million deal with the rebel tour.
Rahm, 31, was listed as LIV’s biggest unsecured creditor when the golf outfit filed for bankruptcy in September at $7.5 million, though he is reportedly owed over $100 million.
LIV, on the brink of a rebirth after the Saudi Public Investment Fund pulled its billions of dollars in backing, returned Rahm’s exclusive name, image and likeness rights, including the nickname “Rhambo” and “Legion XIII,” the name of his LIV team.
Rahm, who held the No. 1 ranking among golfers for 52 weeks from 2020-21, won the Masters and U.S. Open before jumping to the rebel tour in 2023 and won the individual championship in all three years, accruing $107 million in on-course earnings.
The separation agreement further solidifies that Rahm won’t be a part of whatever LIV looks like when it re-emerges.
“Mr. Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0 and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him, and he will not be participating going forward in LIV 2.0,” his attorney, John Beck, said during LIV’s bankruptcy hearing on Oct. 7.
As LIV continues to sort out its future — its attorneys said it would know by the end of the month if it will move forward with its plans — Rahm’s is no less murky.
He is slated to play in the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi Championship on Nov. 5-8. There is currently no pathway for him to return to the PGA Tour.
Rahm was among the players to decline the Tour’s Returning Member Program last year, which allowed former LIV star Brooks Koepka to rejoin, albeit with a hefty financial disadvantages.
PGA Tour Brian Rolapp said the program would not be offered a second time.
