Why Camilo Duran missed Celtic training as Martin O’Neill issues squad update ahead of Europa League challenge against Benfica this evening…

As we reported yesterday evening, Celtic striker Camilo Duran sat out training ahead of the Europa League clash with Benfica in Lisbon, fuelling speculation that he was carrying an injury rendering him doubtful for the Thursday night showdown.
However, fears of an injury situation, something that would not only rule the Colombian out of the Benfica clash, but Sunday’s vital league fixture at Celtic park against Hearts have been eased after Martin O’Neill offered an explanation for the 24 year olds absence.

The veteran Irishman explained to the media pack that Duran had remained behind as he awaits the birth of his child and could still join up with the squad later if all goes to plan.
He said: “Camilo is hoping to be out here later on; his partner’s having a baby, so he’d obviously want to be there at the birth. It depends on how it goes.
“I haven’t heard any more news, but if everything goes alright without complications then he’ll come round.”

Martin was also able to provide a positive update regarding Auston Trusty, stating the American international is available for selection after returning to training.
His fellow central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers however has been ruled out through injury.

The big American also missed the win over Motherwell due to Injury, and it’s still unclear if he has any chance of making Sunday’s clash with Hearts.
Meanwhile, talented Celtic youngster Lucas Clearie has been training with the first team ahead of the Benfica clash, however it is unclear whether the Scotland Under-19 international travelled to Portugal or only trained with the senior squad.
UEFA rules allow clubs to register unlimited eligible Scottish-trained players on their B list, making Clearie available for selection if required.
The 17 year old has scored 15 goals in 13 appearances in the Lowland League West this season, placing him among Celtic’s leading academy performers.
