Linda Mwananchi Movement has condemned the attack on former Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza, which occurred during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Githongo Market in Central Imenti, Meru county, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

According to a statement signed by Pauline Njoroge, Head of Communication at the National Secretariat, the attack destroyed Mwangaza's vehicles, resulted in the theft of equipment, and caused injuries to members of her staff.
The statement noted that Mwangaza had attended the event following a formal invitation from the county commissioner.
Earlier attack also cited
Linda Mwananchi's statement referenced a previous incident involving Mwangaza at Gituine Village in Igembe Central, suggesting a pattern of violence targeting the former governor.
The organisation described the attacks as deeply troubling and called on the relevant authorities to conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into both incidents.
The statement raised concerns that the attacks allegedly took place in the presence of police officers, a detail that has intensified scrutiny of the security response surrounding Mwangaza's public appearances.
Council of Governors challenged
Beyond the immediate condemnation, Linda Mwananchi directed sharp criticism at the Council of Governors, accusing the body of remaining silent in the face of threats against both Mwangaza and Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya.
Natembeya has been at the centre of a public dispute with the national government over the construction of a Level Five hospital and the Masinde Muliro Market in Kitale, with tensions over stall allocations and the market's launch reportedly sparking protests.

The movement demanded that the Council of Governors publicly speak out and take a clear stance on the safety of current and former governors facing intimidation and physical threats.
"The council must speak out against political persecution and defend the safety and dignity of former governors regardless of their political affiliation. Its silence in the face of these attacks is unacceptable," the statement said.
Linda Mwananchi called on state security agencies to act without delay in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the assault on Mwangaza and her team.
