Krafton India has renamed its upcoming lightweight battle royale game, BGMI Lite, to BGMI Air. Pre-registrations for the title have crossed 10 million in India. The game is scheduled to launch later in 2026, although the company has not announced an exact release date.
The company announced the rebranding on October 15, 2026. Krafton said the previously announced plans remain unchanged, with the game still designed to bring the core Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) experience to more devices through a smaller download and a more accessible format.
BGMI Air Pre-Registrations Cross 10 Million
According to Krafton India, BGMI Air has crossed 10 million pre-registrations ahead of its planned launch. Registrations opened for Android users in India on August 25 through the Google Play Store.
The game aims to make the BGMI experience accessible to a wider audience, including players on smartphones with limited storage. Its initial download size is around 1GB, while the standard BGMI installation can reach up to 8GB with additional packages.
Krafton has said the lighter version will not compromise the core gaming experience. The company is positioning BGMI Air as a separate title rather than an update to the existing game.

Open Beta Planned Before Full Launch
According to Krafton India, pre-registrations for BGMI Air have surpassed 10 million ahead of its scheduled launch. Android players in India can pre-register from August 25 via the Google Play Store.
It aims to offer an alternative way to play BGMI that caters to gamers with less storage space on their phones. The app is 1 GB, compared with the usual BGMI installation's 8 GB.
The company assures that this alternative BGMI game does not sacrifice the gaming experience. Krafton is also marketing it as a new game, not an update to the existing BGMI.
Existing BGMI Accounts Will Remain Separate
BGMI Air will be available as a separate game for existing BGMI players. Users will not need to transfer their existing accounts to access the new title.
This development is part of Krafton India's efforts to grow its BGMI brand and reach players whose phones may not have enough space for the game.
As per the report, more than 10 crore people in India have downloaded BGMI. Through BGMI Air, the developer has tried to broaden the brand's reach with a lighter installation process while maintaining the same game experience.
Although the branding has changed with this new name, the developer has maintained that the game remains accessible rather than an entirely new gaming experience.
