After some concerns about what the New England Patriots were as a team after the first couple of weeks of the season, they've completely quieted all doubters with two impressive wins, beating the Buffalo Bills 29-26 in Week 4, then completely dominating the Las Vegas Raiders on both sides of the football, winning 45-17 in Week 5.
This was a promising sign for the Patriots and should indicate they'll buy at the deadline.
Head coach Mike Vrabel has already spoken about potentially adding a wide receiver, though there's hope A.J. Brown returns soon, and this offense looks the way everyone expected it to entering the season.
As for other names, the most obvious target is Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy seems like an afterthought in the Cleveland Browns' offense, catching just eight passes for 81 yards so far.
“It’s difficult to imagine why the Cleveland Browns would want to keep Jerry Jeudy past the NFL trade deadline, unless the offers are so low that the team is just better off keeping him. He’s firmly behind Denzel Boston, KC Concepcion and Harold Fannin Jr. in line for targets, and dealing the veteran away would open up more snaps for the likes of Isaiah Bond and Malachi Corley.
"Plus, given he’ll be a 2027 cap casualty anyway, Cleveland might as well see if it can get a Day 3 pick for him,” Matt Johnson wrote.
A lot of this will come down to what the Patriots are willing to move for a player of Jeudy's caliber.
He's still a very good player and could do well in the right system, but he still has two years remaining on his $52.5 million deal, which runs through the 2027 campaign.
That's about the only thing the Patriots have to consider here, since there's an argument that they don't want to bring in a guy making this kind of money who isn't elite.
