Malawi’s women’s national team is getting ready for a historic trip, and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) wants fans to help dress them for it.

The governing body has offered K3 million to the designer of the winning kit as preparations begin for the Scorchers’ appearance at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The Scorchers earned their place on the world stage with a second-place finish at the Wafcon finals in Morocco in August, and FAM is determined that their new strip will be just as memorable as their performances.
The brief is clear. Designs must be created specifically for women’s football, reflecting strength, empowerment and comfort.
“Designs should not be unisex or men’s templates,” FAM said in its statement.
Designers are also expected to celebrate Malawian culture and national pride.
The kit must feature the team’s colours of black, red and green, and show a clear understanding of Malawian identity.
The technical details are strict. FAM’s logo must sit on the left side of the chest, with the Admiral logo on the right.
Every kit must also carry at least one unique limited-edition element linked to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Entrants must be creative, talented and aged between 18 and 35. FAM says the finished shirt should show originality in design above all else.
The competition puts Malawi’s young designers at the heart of the country’s ambitions, giving them a chance to leave their mark on a team set to take on the best in the world.
