Riyadh – Saudi Arabia announced on Friday that its air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed two cruise missiles over the Red Sea, according to an official statement carried by state media.
The missiles were detected and neutralized before reaching their intended targets, authorities said, adding that the operation was conducted as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the Kingdom's airspace, territorial waters, and critical infrastructure.
Saudi officials did not immediately disclose the origin of the missiles or provide details regarding potential casualties or damage. However, the interception comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing security concerns along key maritime routes in the Red Sea.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its commitment to maintaining regional security and protecting civilian and economic assets against any threats.
Authorities said the Kingdom's defense systems remain on high alert to respond to developments that could affect national security and maritime stability.
