The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly plotting to discredit the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.
The council alleged that the former vice president and the ADC were deploying fake news, artificial intelligence-generated content, deepfake videos and counterfeit documents to manipulate public opinion and undermine the campaign. Blueprint reports
The allegations were contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, who said the alleged disinformation campaign had begun within the preceding 24 hours.
According to Alake, one of the incidents involved the circulation of a photograph showing a security vehicle on routine patrol near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna metropolis.
He alleged that the photograph was presented in a misleading context to suggest that security personnel had been deployed to protect the party’s billboards.
“Atiku and the ADC propaganda machinery twisted the narrative, claiming the security agents were there to protect the APC billboards in Kaduna,” Alake said.
He further alleged that the report was published by a national newspaper before Atiku shared it on his official social media accounts.
The council also accused the former vice president and the ADC of circulating a purported letter allegedly written by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani to the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claiming that the state government had released N2.3 trillion to host the rally.
Dismissing the claim, Alake questioned the possibility of a state government spending such an amount on a political rally, arguing that the figure was higher than Kaduna State’s combined budgets for 2024, 2025 and 2026.
“We are still at a loss as to how anyone can imagine and concoct this senseless and utterly baseless lie that defies logic and basic common sense,” he said.
The spokesperson added that the state’s budgets for the three years stood at N458.271 billion in 2024, N790.439 billion in 2025 and N985.9 billion in 2026.
He said the figures, taken together, remained below the N2.3 trillion allegedly attributed to the state government for the rally.
The council further alleged that the incidents were part of a broader plan to circulate old, doctored and deepfake videos during the campaign flag-off to create the impression that residents were opposed to the event.
“We know these two scenarios are only a part of the grand plan,” Alake said, alleging that further misleading content could emerge as the rally got underway.
He said the statement was intended to alert members of the public to what the council described as a deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians and discredit the APC, President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani and other party leaders.
The council also criticised Atiku and the ADC over their political ambitions, alleging that they were prepared to deploy questionable tactics in their pursuit of power.
“It is a fact that Atiku Abubakar and the ADC, his special-purpose vehicle, are incapable of winning any election. They will pull any strings, no matter how despicable and atrocious, to stay afloat in their desperate bid to grab power at all costs,” the statement added.
The council urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify information circulating on social media and other platforms, particularly reports and videos relating to the Kaduna campaign flag-off.
The statement was signed by Alake on behalf of the APC Presidential Campaign Council on October 24, 2026.
