MADRID — For AstraZeneca, a major oncology conference here this weekend has been a sign of how the company’s cancer work is steamrolling ahead, with highlights from a mix of old standbys and new molecules that could expand its armament of medicines even further.
Four of the 12 presentations slotted in the presidential sessions at this year’s European Society for Medical Oncology’s congress featured AZ medicines. The meeting captured just how wide-ranging the company’s cancer work is, showing the power of new combinations of approved drugs and putting a spotlight on what could be the company’s next targeted chemotherapy to reach the market.
“That does speak to the breadth of the portfolio, but also the depth and quality of the data that we’re presenting,” Susan Galbraith, the head of AZ’s cancer R&D, told STAT.
