Bulgaria is preparing to send its 35th scientific expedition to Antarctica for the 2026-2027 season, with expedition leader Professor Hristo Pimpirev due to receive the national flag from President Iliana Iotova at a ceremony in Sofia on 20 October.
The new mission will continue scientific research on the frozen continent, including projects on underwater archaeology, volcanic ash and seismology.
During the previous polar season, Bulgaria's St Kliment Ohridski base on Livingston Island supported 35 Bulgarian and international research projects, while a new laboratory building was brought into operation.
