Colombo, Oct 17 (Daily Mirror) - A group of Buddhist monks staging a satyagraha at Colombo's Viharamahadevi Park to demand the release of Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera continues to remain at the location.
The monks arrived at Viharamahadevi Park yesterday afternoon, where a tense situation arose with the police as the gathered group attempted to erect a temporary shelter (hut) for the night.
Despite the tension, Venerable Tittagalle Anandasiri Thera stated that they would not vacate the premises until Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera is released.
The group of monks, who had remained stationed in front of the Presidential Secretariat until yesterday (16) afternoon, subsequently proceeded to the Ministry of Buddhasasana. However, stating that discussions held with the Ministry's Secretary ended in failure, the monks decided to move their protest to Viharamahadevi Park.
