MobileMoney Fintech LTD has signed a strategic partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development to expand digital financial services for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in Ghana.
The agreement was signed in Accra by Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD, while Allen Anie, Head of Experimentation and Chief Technical Adviser at UNDP, initialled for the UN system.
It was witnessed by senior management of MobileMoney Fintech LTD and officials from the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry.
The partnership forms part of MobileMoney Fintech LTD’s commitment to leveraging digital ecosystems to increase MSME productivity and advance financial inclusion under the Joint SDG Fund programme.
Speaking after the signing, Mr Haruna said the partnership deepens MobileMoney Fintech LTD’s role in enhancing micro enterprises and aligns with the company’s core mandate.
“This is in line with deepening our role in enhancing micro enterprises in Ghana.
This is something very passionate for us at MobileMoney Fintech Limited because at the core of what we do is providing financial inclusion and also deepening financial health of individuals as well as communities,” he said.
The MobileMoney Fintech LTD CEO said the programme is particularly important because it focuses on underserved groups, especially women and youth-led businesses.
He said MobileMoney Fintech LTD’s offer goes beyond payments to address critical pillars of financial health such as savings, micro-loans and group loans which are essential for building wealth and capital.
According to him, the partnership has come at the right time as access to financial services has improved significantly in Ghana, largely driven by mobile money.
We believe that the levels of access to financial services have been improved significantly in this country. And it is a time for enterprise, especially micro enterprises, to take it to the next level so that we can create big businesses for tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Haruna said MobileMoney Fintech LTD is excited about the scale-up and looks forward to seeing micro enterprises adopt the services to expand operations and improve livelihoods. “Our joy and pleasure would be to see these micro enterprises pick up these services and expand the well-being of not just themselves but the families who benefit from what they do and the ripple effect this has in terms of access to education, health and general well-being,” he added.
In his remarks, Mr Anie said the partnership with MobileMoney Fintech LTD connects three areas: policy support through Ghana’s first National E-Commerce Strategy, a digital platform through the MSME Digital Gateway, and improved access to digital finance for women- and youth-led businesses.
He said many MSMEs, particularly women- and youth-led, continue to face barriers to affordable finance, savings and business management support.
During the pilot in 2025, five financial service providers, including MobileMoney Fintech LTD operating as MTN MoMo, developed digital solutions informed by research with merchants and agents across four regions.
With UNCDF technical assistance, MobileMoney Fintech LTD developed an integrated offer combining digital savings, micro-loans, financial literacy and business management training.
The current scale-up by MobileMoney Fintech LTD will enable MSMEs to save via mobile phones, access digital micro-loans where eligible, and strengthen skills in budgeting, record-keeping and cash flow.
By June 2027, the partnership led by MobileMoney Fintech LTD aims to reach 18,000 women- and youth-led MSMEs, with at least 10,800 benefiting from savings and loans, catalysing about GH¢11.7 million. UNCDF and UNDP will track progress and work with MobileMoney Fintech LTD and partners to expand financial health and support MSME growth in Ghana.
