At around 1:50 a.m., a Kings District RCMP officer observed a grey Honda Civic travelling at a high rate of speed through downtown Wolfville, the Mounties said in an Oct. 18 news release.
“The officer attempted a traffic stop; however, the Civic failed to pull over and continued toward Grand Pré at a high speed,” the release said.
“While attempting the traffic stop, the police vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle crash just outside Wolfville.”
EHS paramedics transported the officer to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At 1:53 a.m., Kings District RCMP, EHS, and fire services responded to a crash on Highway 1 in Grand Pré.
“When officers arrived, they found that the grey Honda Civic carrying five occupants had left the roadway and gone over an embankment,” the release said.
An 18-year-old man from Prospect Bay, Halifax County, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Paramedics transported three of the four remaining occupants to hospital while the fourth person was transported to hospital by EHS LifeFlight with life-threatening injuries.
“An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended both crash locations and the investigation is ongoing with support from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) will review the preliminary evidence to determine whether the matter falls within its mandate for investigation,” the release said.
Anyone who witnessed the collisions, including those with dashcam, doorbell, or other relevant video footage, is asked to contact Kings District RCMP at 902-679-5555.
