The Khowai district police have begun preparations to strengthen security arrangements ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, with a focus on maintaining law and order and ensuring the peaceful and smooth conduct of the festival.
A total of 408 Durga Pujas will be organised across Khowai district this year, compared to 397 last year, marking an increase of 11 pujas.
In view of the growing number of puja celebrations, the police administration is placing additional emphasis on security, crowd control and traffic management.
Sharing details of the preparations, Khowai Superintendent of Police Bogati Jagadishwar Reddy said that arrangements were being made to deploy around 1,100 personnel from the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), police and civil police during the festival. The deployment is aimed at maintaining normal law and order, ensuring the safety of visitors at puja pandals and preventing any untoward incidents.
The district police have also directed every puja committee and club to engage its own volunteers. These volunteers are expected to assist in managing crowds, maintaining orderly movement of visitors and coordinating with police personnel whenever necessary.
CCTV surveillance has been identified as another key component of the security plan. All puja committees have been instructed to keep their CCTV cameras operational round the clock. The measure is intended to help monitor suspicious activities in and around puja pandals and enable the authorities to respond promptly to any security concerns.
Traffic management is also expected to remain a major priority during the festive period, when the movement of visitors and vehicles typically increases significantly. The police are focusing on preventing traffic congestion, ensuring smooth movement of visitors and keeping routes accessible for emergency services.
With 408 pujas scheduled across the district, the Khowai police are working towards ensuring a safe, peaceful and orderly Durga Puja.
The administration has also emphasised the importance of cooperation among the police, puja committees, clubs and the general public in maintaining security and discipline throughout the celebrations.
