President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and US President Donald Trump will likely meet during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in November, according to Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez.
In an interview with GMA News, Romualdez said that they are studying Trump's possible schedule and agenda, which included a bilateral meeting between the two leaders.
“I assume that once we've confirmed the date, the exact dates of his arrival, then we can start working the schedule around that time and the agenda and the potential meetings that he will have, which includes a bilateral meeting with President Marcos,” Romualdez said.
Romualdez said that the White House directly sent confirmation of Trump’s Manila visit directly to Malacañang after Marcos invited the US President to visit the Philippines.
“Most likely, the confirmation was sent directly to the Palace,” he said.
“So I assume that this thing is confirmed. But a formal announcement, I'm sure, will be forthcoming,” he added.
Some of the topics that Trump and Marcos may discuss in the bilateral meeting include the West Philippine Sea and the Pax Silica framework agreement with the US.
The Palace previously confirmed that Trump will visit the Philippines for the ASEAN Summit. The Philippines is currently hosting the ASEAN Summit as its 2026 chair, with Singapore set to take over chairship in 2027.
