The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), in collaboration with Media Cast, has officially launched the Pakistan Hockey League (PHL) 2027 to revive the country’s national sport, attract investment, and improve playing standards.
The league was unveiled at a ceremony in Islamabad and aims to bring together international players, local talent, corporate sponsors, and team owners under a professional competition structure.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, attended the ceremony as chief guest and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting hockey.
He welcomed cooperation between the government, private sector, and hockey community, expressing hope that the league and other development initiatives would help Pakistan regain its position in international hockey.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani said the federation was working on long-term reforms to strengthen the sport, including improving playing standards, upgrading infrastructure, expanding facilities, attracting corporate investment, and providing better incentives and opportunities for players.
He stressed that professional management, long-term planning, and stronger public-private partnerships were essential for the sport’s revival.
Salman Danish, owner of Media Cast, said the company would work with the PHF to organize the league professionally, secure corporate sponsorships, and develop a sustainable commercial model.
Organizers said the league would help increase commercial interest in hockey, improve competition standards, attract long-term investment, and reconnect younger generations with Pakistan’s hockey history.
Pakistan, once a leading force in international hockey, has struggled to maintain its position in recent years. The league’s success will depend on securing investment, establishing a competitive structure, and creating lasting development opportunities for players.
