Halloween is just a few weeks away. Do you have your costume picked out already? You might as well compare it to the rest of the country to make sure you’re not clashing.
Google Canada has revealed the top 10 most-searched-for costumes in 2026, and let’s just say there aren’t any surprises. The list is painfully predictable, as though it could’ve been pulled from any past year.
Decades-old Marvel, DC, and Disney characters remain popular picks, and oddly enough, there aren’t any timely pop culture references on the list.
Truthfully, we were expecting to see people wanting to dress up as characters from the popular Emmy-winning series Widow’s Bay or the hit horror movie Obsession. Oh, and how could we forget the hockey ‘fits from Heated Rivalry?
Below is another popular Canadian show that broke some records this week, so it’s not to say there won’t be folks dressing up as fishermen or rocking some cozy knits while holding a screech. There just won’t be that many.
Google Canada also says Angine de Poitrine was the top-trending musical act for September. The Quebec band, which won the Polaris Prize this year and made their late-night TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, is known for its unique costumes. So, it’s likely Canadians are debating whether to go all out with the polka dots this Halloween.
Canadians also Googled the festive movie Hocus Pocus plus the word “costume” in September, so there could be three well-dressed witches at your next soirée.

An interesting tidbit from the search engine: there have been more searches for “dog costume” than “kid costume” in Canada, with Manitoba being the only province searching for the latter more.
In case you’re curious, Spider-Man, the Mandalorian, and Ghostbusters are the top three most-searched-for costumes for kids. Meanwhile, it looks like canines across Canada are going to be begrudgingly dressed up as Scooby-Doo, a hot dog, or a banana, as those are the three most common dog costume searches this year.
