Coach Sean McVay’s team watched Davante Adams suffer a non-contact leg injury and then watched Chad Ryland drill a game-winning field goal in a shocking 18-16 home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The loss came after a Rams special teams injury that clouded up a rough day at the office in SoFi Stadium.
After the game, McVay spoke about what went wrong in stark comments.
“You know, congrats to the Cardinals, we won’t win a game unless we figure out how not to beat ourselves,” McVay said, referencing poor kick coverage and an injury to kicker Blake Grupe.

“Like I just told you guys, to be able to not beat ourselves, before we figure out how to even come away with some of the results, it’s not even good enough and I have to do a much better job. Today, there is nothing positive that I can say about today,” he continued, adding that he loves his team.
Matthew Stafford, who garnered “best thrower ever” comments from Josh Allen after Week 5’s performance, was a bright spot with 222 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Kyren Williams, Puka Nacua, and Blake Corum all had solid performances, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals stole a much-needed win.
McVay’s message is starting to sound tired with the Rams 2-4 on the season, but there’s still time to turn things around as Stafford and company continue to plod forward. Losing to the Cardinals wasn’t something that most people expected, but it goes to show that McVay was spot-on with his message, giving the Rams something to focus on in practice going forward.
