CoComelon is preparing to expand beyond YouTube with its upcoming feature film, marking a major step for the popular preschool entertainment brand. The franchise has built a global audience through nursery rhymes, animated videos and child-friendly music. Now, its owners hope to turn that success into a long-lasting entertainment franchise.
Moonbug Entertainment owns CoComelon, which has attracted more than 200 million YouTube subscribers and accumulated over 200 billion views. The company is partnering with NBCUniversal’s DreamWorks to produce CoComelon: The Movie. The film aims to offer a bigger musical experience, deeper storylines and more emotional themes than the original series.

CoComelon first appeared on YouTube in September 2006, starting with nursery rhymes and short animated videos. Its popularity later helped the brand reach new audiences beyond the video-sharing platform. In 2020, a deal brought repackaged episodes of the series to Netflix, strengthening its presence in the streaming market.
The franchise continued to grow with CoComelon Lane, a Netflix-exclusive spinoff released in 2023. The series gave characters more dialogue and explored their personalities and experiences in greater detail. Other projects, including the live-action series The Melon Patch and CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends, further expanded the brand’s reach.

The upcoming film will follow JJ as he prepares for his first day of kindergarten. This milestone offers a relatable story for young children and their families. Through JJ’s journey, the film aims to build on the familiar characters and music that have made CoComelon popular with preschool audiences.
With its feature-film plans, CoComelon is moving beyond short-form digital content towards a broader entertainment experience. The project also reflects Moonbug’s efforts to develop the brand across different formats and platforms. The film’s release could mark another important stage in the franchise’s international growth.
