Israel Election: Netanyahu vs Benny Gantz, Key Issues And Why The Polls Matter For India
As Israel heads towards critical elections, the contest between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his challenger, former Israel Defense Forces chief Benny Gantz, brings key issues to the forefront. Political discourse centers on accountability for the October 7 security lapses, border security across north and south regions, and the soaring cost of living driven by ongoing conflicts. While Netanyahu opposes an inquiry and vows to annex West Bank settlements, Gantz pledges a thorough probe into the intelligence and operational failures. The election holds major significance for India across defence cooperation, crude oil stability, and regional security. Observers highlight strong bipartisan support across Israeli politics for the strategic partnership with New Delhi, encompassing bilateral defence supplies, technology transfer, Indian investments in Haifa Port under the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, and Indian workforce contributions to Israeli infrastructure projects.
