Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Embassy in Yaoundé, Cameroon, is targeting at least US$19.5 million in transactions between Central African business delegates and Indonesian companies at Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2026.
"To be frank, I cannot provide an exact figure yet, but our minimum target matches last year's achievement of US$19.5 million," Indonesian Ambassador to Cameroon Agung Cahaya Sumirat said at a press briefing on Tuesday (October 13).
Ambassador Sumirat noted that the embassy had facilitated the participation of 81 business delegates from Cameroon and several neighboring Central African countries in the expo.
In addition to Cameroon, the embassy in Yaoundé oversees Indonesia's diplomatic relations with Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic.
Sumirat explained that matching the transaction value achieved at TEI 2025 was a realistic target, given that the embassy had been operational for only three years.
He added that the embassy remained committed to expanding trade partnerships with host governments and various private-sector stakeholders across the region.
Sumirat expressed optimism that at least four memoranda of understanding (MoUs) would be signed during the event, primarily in the agricultural sector, with a focus on chemical and organic fertilizers.
He also expressed hope that the number of MoUs would increase as the delegates were scheduled to attend several business forums and business-matching sessions through October 24.
"Currently, four potential MoUs have an 80 percent likelihood of being signed. This momentum is expected to continue through business-matching sessions in South Tangerang and the Indonesia Business Forum," he said.
He emphasized that opportunities in the fertilizer sector were particularly promising because Cameroon continues to face a domestic supply deficit.
Other promising sectors include transportation, particularly railway equipment, automotive spare parts, and maritime transport. Sumirat said his office planned to coordinate with state-owned shipbuilder PT PAL Indonesia and domestic private shipyards to explore potential areas of cooperation.
"Cameroon has an extensive river network and urgently needs more reliable vessels for river transport," he explained.
Trade Expo Indonesia 2026 is scheduled to take place from October 14 to 18 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City, Tangerang, Banten.
According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Indonesia's exports to the Republic of the Congo reached US$106.9 million in January–August 2026, followed by Cameroon at US$29.2 million and Equatorial Guinea at US$13.9 million.
Exports to Gabon, Chad, and the Central African Republic during the same period totaled US$11.4 million, US$8.8 million, and US$1.7 million, respectively.
